2008 Contests

Tameside Nov 2008 - Winners!!

Yes - indeed we did win! There were 9 bands in the contest, and all of them played to a very high standard. Not as high as we did though, according to the adjudicator! Our contest programme consisted of "Caravan", "Doyle's Lament", "Valero", Little Prayer", and "Shine as the Light". It was a very well chosen programme as it turned out, as the adjudicator was very impressed with us. We also took the "best basses" prize, which was accepted by Kate Bennetts, our principal bass. A long was to go - all the way to Tameside - but well worth it this time! There are pictures in our "Gallery" pages.

Manchester National Youth Championships

April 13th saw us heading for Manchester for the National Youth Championships. Having planned what we thought was plenty of travelling time into our programme, a late turnup by the coach did rather cause us a few problems. An en route comfort stop had to be abandoned (causing much consternation to those who had grabbed that last extra cup of tea!), but a smart piece of navigation around a traffic jam on the M6 saw us arrive in plenty of time at the Royal Northern College of Music. After our short warmup, all too quickly we were on stage and going through our performance, which we had been rehearsing for weeks. Although we felt at the end that we have perhaps played these pieces better, we still managed to come a very respectable 2nd place, and were awarded a gold medal! We were perhaps better than we thought! Go to our gallery pages for some pics!

Blackpool 2008!

No Youth Brass year would be complete without our customary visit to the Blackpool Youth Brass Band Entertainment Festival! This was held over the weekend of Feb 9th & 10th, and was a great weekend. We put on a fantastic show, and the adjudicators rewarded our efforts with a 2nd in music, and 3rd place overall. This year, we brought along our own special "house" band. Those of you who bought the dvd will know what we mean! As usual, pictures on our gallery pages.
